Regional Anaesthesia Refresher 2020: Back to Basics by Muhammad Amir Ayub

2 announcements here:

Number 1, I’m now managing the YouTube page for the Malaysian Special Interest Group in Regional Anaesthesia (MY sigRA). Over there I’ve copied over the videos of the National Regional Anaesthesia Symposium 2017. Do subscribe to show your support.

Number 2, I’m now starting to edit and produce videos based on the just held Regional Refresher 2020: Back to Basics course. I was not directly involved in recording, but the circumstances are challenging: small crampy room with lots of reverb, presence of hissing, camera behind people (thus blocking the video), and difficulty to get the presenter and presentation in the same view. But we’ll make do with what we have and hopefully the presentations are clear to listen with good slide quality.

Do appreciate the difference (best heard with good speakers/headphones) between the original audio here:

Versus the published audio here:

Of course I’m learning everything on my own here. I will share what I’ve learned so far and my production decisions in the future, but do share your thoughts in the comments here or on the page.

Oh, My MacBook (2012 Retina) by Muhammad Amir Ayub

My laptop has turned into a desktop for now and maybe till its demise…. But this has been the longest lasting personal computer to me.

The long term plan is to buy a MacBook Pro with Apple silicon if it holds out. If not, the plan is to buy that 16 inch MBP. But mark my words I have no joy in spending all that money. Especially when I bought that iPhone 11 when my 7 broke right on the eve of my birthday, and this on the morning of my wife’s birthday.

So my laptop just suffered an osteoporotic hip fracture...Followed by a rant to release some steam Cursing bleeped out

National Regional Anaesthesia Symposium 2017, Part 3 by Muhammad Amir Ayub

The following are pretty advanced topics when compared to the run of the mill regional anesthesia concerns in daily practice. I like the topic of improving needle visualization as it pertains to the physics and practical use of ultrasound.

As regards to the debate regarding fascia iliaca blocks, it’s difficult to make a conclusion when here in HKL the block of choice is a suprainguinal FIB as compared to the classical infrainguinal FIB’s. Until then, personally I feel that the suprainguinal FIB is a useful tool in the armamentarium especially when time can be an issue occasionally to perform separate individual blocks.
